*This post is sticky for the month of November*
So last night I learned that November was National Adoption Awareness Month. Hmm what an immense subject to conquer...well I will start with some statistics. There are over 143 million orphans today in the world.(what a major number)
Every 14 seconds another child is orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
1.2 million girls were abducted in to child sex trade last year. (if this does not break your heart as a woman what will?)
143,000,000 orphans in the world today will spend an average of ten years in an orphanage or foster home.
Here in the United States, approximately 510,000 are living in the foster care system.
Here are some resources for adoption.
Many of us have heard about Steven Curtis Chapman and the lose of his daughter Maria. Well his daughter Maria was adopted from China along with his other two adoptive daughters Shaohannah and Stevey Joy. He has an organization named after his first adopted daughter Shaohannah that helps with adoption fees. Visit Shaohannah's Hope for more information.
Focus On The Family has a site supporting adoption at iCareAboutOrphans.org Also Focus On The Family's Weekend Magazine will be highlighting adoption this month.
Precious.org is the world's first and largest international adoption website and photolisting!
Food For The Hungry is probable one of the more well know organizations helping out.
That is just a few of the many places that are out there to help. I suggest going to look at them to see if there is way that you might be able to help out in this important month. I also was wondering if anyone would be willing to stand and pray with me this month for a group of orphans?? Please let me know if there is any interest and maybe I can set up a blog page just for that and keep it updated. Maybe we could even sponsor a child in a third world country (oh dear now the thoughts are flying through my head).
Someday, hopefully soon, my husband and I hope to be able to do foster care and adoption. We are just waiting on God's timing.
FYI I decided to start a page before I even finished this post. Look for it up at the top of my blog.
Some more links
The first is K-Love's link to Cry Of The Orphan. K-Love is doing a campin week for Cry Of The Orphan to raise awarness of what others can be doing.
K-Love is also doing Operation Christmas Child by Samaritan's Purse. Although Operation Cristams Child may not be only for orphans, it is definitly helping children in need.
And the last but not least is Focus On The Family' s Parenting Forums where Lysa TerKeurst talks about her adoption story in What Happens When Women Walk in Faith?
Check them out.

What a sweet post. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Love the butterfly motif!!
Thank you for this great post. I spent almost my entire childhood in foster care and encourage people to foster/adopt.
Let's give children from orphans a family to be with, to love them. But If I have enough money to support, then why not try to adopt kids. right? I want to help. Thanks for posting about adoption.
I'm adopted and looking into adoption for our next children since our little girl has genetic defects. It is such a beautiful gift for everyone involved. Thanks for posting about it.
I'm 27 and no children yet. Who knows when we'll start having kids. I have a disease that may cause issues with pregnancy so I've always had adoption in the back of my mind as an alternative.
Thanks for the resources!
love your blog! thank you for raising awareness on this topic!!! im glad you gave the links!
Adoption is such a wonderful thing. I have wanted to adopt an older child someday, but my husband is not so sure about it. It just breaks my heart to think of children growing up without a family and waiting their whole lives to find someone.
Felicia,
I found your blog mentioned on my friend Alicia's blog.
Her blog is called Yayastuff (http://www.yayastuff.blogspot.com/).
I am thankful that Alicia posted a link to your site and I am looking forward to posting something about this myself.
My blog is about endometriosis and chronic illnesses. Alicia is my "go-to" person for issues like infertility and miscarriages. She and her husband recently started the adoption process.
I plan to post in the next few days and I will, of course, link back here.
Thank you very much for bringing this awareness month to people's attention!!

Great post. Adoption is SO important in our world today.
Thanks for sharing in my SITS day with me!
Thanks so much for spreading the word! Hey, I'm over from SITS, and I'm making the rounds. Gotta Great Giveaway over at my place...please stop by when you can!
It's hard for me to even think about orphans. I have two babies in China that I take care of financially and for several years I (and Heather of ohmystinkinheck.com) ran aidfororphans.org that assisted 100's of babies and children. It is sad that children in the world suffer when we live so well in North America.
